Grad School (part 17)

Published by

In talking with him and another friend in the class during dinner break, I was a little surprised to learn that the two of them are pursuing this degree from a Christian angle (*insert “not that there’s anything wrong with that” here*). Both are looking for Jesus in all this. One thing that troubled me though, is that both claim to not be able to handle much in the way of the “negative” any more. Not even things like horror movies. They apparently freak out over the violence, having become “too sensitive” to it.

Whereas I tend to be all “bring on the zombies!” still.

I worry about this with them, in that it seems to me that there may be some fear of dealing with shadow, or unpleasantness. And this being California, and me being in an admittedly freaky area of study, I tend to see a lot of people blissed out on transpersonal experience, without really being able to integrate it, and the rest of themselves into a cohesive and operational state of being.
