Left-Hand Path

Published by

Naturally, I have no documentation for this. Grr.

But, as I was pulling into work this morning, NPR had a story about an interesting bit of bio-science that has just taken place.

It seems that amino acids come in two varieties. “Left-handed” and “Right-handed”. These amino acids are structurally identical, but mirror images of each other, presumably something in the way the molecules are configured, pointing either to the “left” or to the “right”.

It would seem that “left-handed” amino acids are the only ones capable of supporting life, or creating living matter.

Hmm.

And they say we left-handed people are “more creative”.

And then there’s always the semantic fun in re-considering the implications of the term “Left-Hand Path”.
