In the early days of hip-hop, you had such luminaries as Grandmaster Flash, Rock Master Scott, Jam Master Jay, and Mix Master Mike.
Did we ever figure out what the hierarchy of mastery was?
Do you start at Mix Master, work your way up to Jam Master, and then Rock Master, before finally earning the title of Grandmaster?
Or do you get more underlings as you progress up the ladder?
That would probably put Jam Master at the bottom, as he only had Run and DMC. Mix Master and Rock Master might be comparable, as they had The Beastie Boys (3 of them), and The Dynamic Three, respectively. Grandmaster Flash had the Furious Five. So, he’d earned two more.
Or, perhaps, that might put Rock Master just above Mix Master, as there is a specific call out of number with Rock Master Scott and the Dynamic Three, followed by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five.
Additionally, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five would imply a total of 6 people.
Why are there 7 people on the album cover for The Message?
